After you've chosen the ride that you'll be participating in, you should take the following steps:

  1. Familiarize yourself with the ride start location - map it or key in the address in your GPS.  

  2. The Calendar page on our website may include specific instructions such as where to park or where the nearest rest rooms are located.

  3. Before you leave the house, check the website for up-to-the-minute news regarding ride status.  Most rides are cancelled in rain or other inclement weather (wet roads 30 minutes before start time).

  4. Prepare your bike by insuring that it's in sound mechanical condition

  5. Install a computer on your bike that shows distance (odometer). This will be helpful when reading cue sheets.

  6. Inflate your tires to the proper setting - every bike and tire combination is different (check the PSA on the sidewall of your bike tire).

  7. Bring your helmet - required on 100% of our rides,

  8. Bring a water bottle or hydration pack - 2 bottles are recommended in hot weather.

  9. Bring a spare tube (very important), mini-pump and patch kit.

  10. Bring a mini-tool kit for performing minor adjustments.

  11. Bring snacks such as granola bars, banana or energy gel.

  12. Bring a cue sheet holder or you can purchase mini binder clips that are very helpful.

  13. Carry an ID card and cash with you on the ride.

  14. Arrive 30 minutes prior to the posted ride start time to get yourself and your bike ready.

  15. Locate the Velo City Riders Cycling Club ride leader and introduce yourself.

  16. You may be required to sign a Release & Waiver form before a ride.

  17. Obtain a cue sheet from the ride leader (if necessary).

  18. Listen to the the ride leader's pre-ride instructions. They will give an overview of the ride and other important information such as route distance options.

  19. Head out on your ride and have a good time!
